The polytechnic had a remarkable growth during the last thirty years. Started with just two Diploma programmes in Civil Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering and a student strength of 100, it has now grown up into a co-educational institution with a total annual intake of 420 and caters well to the technical education needs of the rural areas of Virudhunagar district.
The College is one of the three institutions in Tamil Nadu to admit 25 PWD (Persons With Disabilities) students over and above the sanctioned intake under Government of India scheme.
The infrastructure facilities made available within the unique green environment and the serene atmosphere are greatly conducive to help the learning community. The numerous buildings of the Polytechnic provide abundant instructional, administrative and residential areas which include a two storeyed main building, spacious workshop buildings, a full fledged Computer Center with V-SAT facility, a separate block for Printing Technology, a well equipped Library (CLAIR) and a well furnished Hostel. The over-all built-up space amounts to 16,211 Sq.m (1,74,430 Sq.ft.).
Apart from this, the campus has numerous facilities like play-fields, canteen, a separate block for girls rest room, well-laid roads etc. Water for garden and ablution uses is supplied from three wells inside the campus. A Water Purification plant is functioning which provides drinking water. Essentially a barren land in 1984 the campus can now boast of a jungle-in-the-making with about 7000 trees of varieties like neem, casuarina, tamarind, flame of the forest, etc. Great care is taken in maintaining the entire campus neatly and cleanly. Thus the campus provides an ideal atmosphere for edifying educational pursuit. |
